t410 heats up in sleep mode
t410 heats up in sleep mode
hello guys
i think i have some issue with my t410 . i noticed that it started to heat even when screen closed and in sleep mode .
the heat builds up on the left side , very close to the edge , under the usb/display port connectors .
is it a known issue ? any help would be appreciated

Re: t410 heats up in sleep mode
My T410 does not heat up excessively in sleep mode. The first thing I would do is remove the keyboard and check the fan. Make sure it is working and not clogged with dirt/dust.

Re: t410 heats up in sleep mode
Very few things get power when in sleep mode. Are you sure it actually makes it to sleep mode? Can you still hear the fan spinning when it is heating up? How is it going to sleep, lid close, Fn+F4?

Re: t410 heats up in sleep mode
Could the setting for 'always-on' for the USB cause this behavior? As others have mentioned are you sure the T410 is actually asleep? Is the crescent moon symbol lit?

Re: t410 heats up in sleep mode
i found the problem , but its not an esy fix .
i started checking the usb ports and one of the usb ports did not work , so i realized something is wrong . found short circuit between this usb power and ground pins .
so i teared apart the poor laptop , the pcb is very dense and very hard to fix . i found 2 components that might be causing the issue .both circled in pic ...

one is tps2066 , which is power distribution switch , and the other is 150uf capacitor . one of them is shorting , so i stupidly decided to remove the ic first, destroying it in the process .well , it wasnt the ic , the [censored] capacitor is shorted .
removed the capacitor also , ordered new tps2066 ic (already have it) and will try to instal it back , without destroying the whole laptop .i will use other capacitor in place of the nec capacitor , i have better lol.
hope it will work ...

Re: t410 heats up in sleep mode
all fixed and working .
only problem was windows was blue screening with "curruptACL" error .
tried to repair using repair console and system restore - no success .
i dont know what caused this , maybe removing the bios battery during the disassembly?
anyway , reinstalled windows and all working now.
