Does anyone have any info on higher gfx chipsets for the T4x

I was going to buy a T42 with the ati 9600 chipset, but I just noticed a few days ago IBM no longer has them on their website. Now they have the x300 available, which I have heard is inferior to the 9600. I was wondering if any better chipsets are going to come out. Acer has the Trqavelmate 8100 which is about the same size and profile of the T4x series, and they have an x700 inside. I would pick up a used T42 with a 9600, but I don't think I could beat IBM's deal right now, the 2687DDU (T43)
Pentium M @ 1.86ghz, 512ram/60gb, 1400x1050 15" screen, intel pro wireless ABG, Gigabit ethernet, dvd-r, ati x300 64mb for $1500.

if I had the money i would get the one with the FireGL, because I am also a 3d artist.

Well as far as i know the X300 isnt inferior. They are more or less equal. Sometimes the X300 is a bit faster somtimes the 9600.
But im receiving three different Thinkpads tomorrow for doing grphics testing - See the thread "The search for the ultimate....."

There has been rumors for a while that the T43 will come with an X600 chip - But since the T43 has just been introduced and everything is switching over to Levono you should expect this to take at least a few months still.

If you do 3D work i dont see any way around a FireGL laptop - Not if this will be your primary computer. Then it would be stupid to save the money and just be frustrated that you couldnt do 3D work.

But follow my other thread and you will see all the tests you want. You can even sugest your own.
