Difficulties opening T40 LCD screen enclosure in top corner

#1 Post by thinktwice » Fri Sep 13, 2013 5:50 am

Hi,

I'm trying to open the enclosure of a damagedT40 LCD screen to get its display inverter.

I removed :
- the two screws on the top
- the three screws on the bottom
- the three screws on the right
- the three screws on the left
- two more screws on the left

However, I cannot figure out how to open the enclosure on the top right, between the opening mechanism (sliding button) and the top right corner.
And I cannot see any other screws.

I don't want to damage the plastic as it is OK.

Any idea ?
Thanks for your help.

I don't know for the T4x series, but in others you sometimes will find glue between the bezel and the LCD's metal frame. Try carefully to separate it using a cutter or a small flat screwdriver . Be careful not to damage the LCD!!!

My two cents...

Thanks Tarurinchi.

I finally managed to open the display.

The fact is that after removing all external screws, there are two more screws to unscrew on the metal rods that attached to the hinges, and one even more screw which binds the right metal rod to the top right corner of the screen.

Furthermore, there is some glue as you mentioned.
It's a good idea to use some fine knife or a cutter to help removing the plastic frame, as it will avoid to deform it.

So, to summmarize, you have to remove :

- 3 screws at the bottom of the display enclosure
- 2 screws at the top of the display enclosure
- 2 screws on each side of the display enclosure
- 2 screws on each of the left and right metal rods
- 1 screw at the top of the right metal rod

I found that reassembling the display was extremely difficult.
This was the first time I did it, and it took me about 2 or 3 hours to disassemble and reassemble the display. Once you know in which order to do things, it should go faster however.
