Anyone modded Win 8?

My friends have Windows 8, but because they didn't want to pay for a Windows 7 copy(lazy), they've figured out ways to get the Start Menu back and partially disable Metro in Windows 8.

Has anyone tried or done this yet? I'm thinking of trying it, but I need to install Windows 8 on something I use... and I'm kinda hesitant.

Classic shell is the only reason that I put Win 8 on a couple of my machines. Beside providing a start menu, it allows me to bypass metro completely. I have no use for metro.
