T41 driver issue

#1 Post by socks » Tue Sep 17, 2013 8:19 am

Can anybody help?
I have a second hand IBM ThinkPad T41. The rescue partition has been deleted by the previous owner. I have installed a fresh copy of XP pro but I have still problems with the drivers for the notebook. No matter how many different drivers from different I try to install, nothing works. I've tried Driver pack solutions and Lenovo but the notebook refuse to accept the Lan drivers, bios drivers and audio drivers. I can't get on the internet with it. The only way is via USB mobile broadband but that is to expensive at the moment.

My notebook is: T41, type: 2373-SGI S/N99-M31LR 04/07

Is there anybody with the correct driver disc for this notebook? I am willing to pay for the disc.
Thank you

The best source for drivers is Lenovo's support site. There really is no other source. Obviously you'll have to use another machine to download the network drivers.

You sure your machine type 2373-SGI is correct? It's not returning anything on Lenovo's website? No matter use this T41 machine code (2373-9HU), download the XP network adapter driver and install it. Then download and install Lenovo's update manager. After that run Lenovo's update manager and Windows update until it can't find anymore updates.

I'm guessing the correct number is:
ThinkPad T41 (2373-SG1)
Based 2373-4QG: P M 1.6GHz, 1GB RAM, 40GB 5400rpm HDD, 14.1 XGA(1024x768) TFT LCD, 32MB ATI Radeon 7500, 8x DVD(slim), IBM 802.11a/b/g wireless, Modem, 1Gb Ether, UltraNav, Sec Chip, 6 cell Li-Ion Batt, WinXP Pro

Another way to get the drivers you need would be to boot with a Linux LiveCD (they usually contain all the drivers), and get on-line then download the drivers to a directory on your HDD, reboot windows and install. BTW, your wifi adapter is an Atheros based model (not Intel) if that helps.
Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E

Thanks everyone for your help. So far nothing works, sorry. I was trying to place a photo of the serial number but no joy here. I am 100% sure the type is 2373-SGI. I think I will have to wait till next month and try to get online with the notebook via usb mobile broadband. I have downloaded the Lenovo Down Load manager and I hope that will solve my problem. As always.... back up! back up! and again, back up! Will let you all know how I got on.

What do you mean refuses to accept?

What happens?

When you tried downloading the Lenovo drivers, did you actually go to the directory where it unpacked the driver and run setup from there?

Did you try to manually load the driver .INF file through the device manager?

Do you have any "unknown devices" in the device manager at all?

Did you check that these components are not simply disabled in the BIOS?
Current: X220 4291-4BG, T410 2537-R46, T60 1952-F76, T60 2007-QPG, T42 2373-F7G
