Wireless behavior

The box is an x230 with the Intel 6250 card, two antennae as it has the camera.

We are staying with some friends in their basement apartment and I cannot get onto their wireless (two floors above) from the apartment. If I go outside and sit on the deck that looks into the room with the wireless router I easily connect. I can then go back to the basement and maintain the connection (3 bars). If I put the machine to sleep when I re-connect, no signal.

My wife with her 3 year old Dell Latitude has no problems connecting form the basement. I see Intel has a more contemporary driver (16.1.1) than the one Lenovo installed, but when I go to Lenovo they tell me that my driver (15.9.0.5) is their newest.

Ideas??

Try this:
Start > [right-click] Computer > Properties > Device Manager > Network Adapters > [Select your wireless adapter, e.g. Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6250 or similar] > Advanced (tab) > Set “Roaming Aggressiveness” to Highest (default is Medium), then set “Transmit Power” to Highest (default).

You might also experiment with the “Preferred Band” Settings, which permit a choice between 2.4 GHz and 5.2 GHz. Default is No Preference.

Be sure to record your existing settings before you make any changes.

You're welcome, glad to hear it is up and running again. My other suggestion would have been to ask your host to re-orient the antenna on the wireless router so that the signal might have more-directional propagation toward the basement area. Keep that in mind should the signal drop out again.
