X61s, Win XP -- factory restore, can't get Win XP SP 3

#1 Post by SteveDC » Thu Sep 26, 2013 10:54 pm

I know XP support is on its way out. Restored computer to factory state. In past, could to Windows Update. Now, not updating, apparently on Microsoft side. (error 0x80190194).

Get shuttled to MS page for manual SP3 download and install but download not working.

Did a Google search, but just see a lot of links for "bonus software" with download. Pass.

XP is running now in factory state -- am writing this note on it. Any updating tips appreciated.

OK, downloading now. I guess MS wanted me to update Explorer and run a malware routine first. Thanks for your interest in my post.

Glad you got it sorted. Sorry no one jumped in to offer advice.

I haven't installed XP in years, but my typical route was to install XP then manually install each service pack, then hit windows update.

One day I got an OEM XP SP3 disc and never had to worry about it.

Just a note: Windows 7 will rock on that X61s.
