Flexview 15" IPS sources
I have a R52 with a standard 15" TFT panel that i'm considering upgrading to a Flexview.
What laptops would be good candidates to look for?
I've seen quite a few that are advertised as 14.1" but I need a 15" panel correct?
I'd like it to be UXGA rather than the other SXGA+ but i might not be able to find the UXGA one.
Ideas?

Welcome to the forum!
If your R52 has Intel integrated graphics, it will not run an UXGA LCD, SXGA+ only.
ATi graphics will run both.
You'll also need an appropriate cable and inverter.
LG Philips FRU 13N7078 would be the obvious choice for SXGA+ panel, and a fairly easy one to find.
As for UXGA, Hydis is 13N7076, and ID Tech comes with several different FRUs, but the panels are essentially the same.

Yes, it's ATI graphics. I was more looking at which particular dead laptops to look for which would have a compatible UXGA panel, such as a R50p, or T43p, or whatever.
Or am i wasting my time trying for the elusive UXGA, and just get the SXGA+?
I'd most likely be looking at fleabay or local computer salvage shops.

For UXGA: R50p, T42p, T43p, T60p
Do bear in mind that these screens are now 6+ years old, and might have lost a significant percentage of their brightness...
Unfortunately, NOS Hydis UXGA panels usually change hands for close to $200 nowadays.
Happy hunting.

Wow. At that price, 10X what I paid for the R52, it probably makes sense to stick with the SXGA+ one then.... !!!!

Re: Flexview 15" IPS sources
Well, i stripped the R50 tonight completely. I noticed that the inverter board called out on the maintenance manual shows XGA and SXGA+. My board is FRU 39T0368, does that imply that board works with the IPS panel, or does IPS always get a special inverter? I'm aware that the cable is special.
Also, I thought I might add bluetooth while i'm in there, in addition to the SATA mod. Is it as simple as swapping theh card, and adding the antenna wire?

You mean R52, correct?86turbodsl wrote:Well, i stripped the R50 tonight completely.
IPS panel should get a special inverter, but since that was not an option offered on R52 series, you can get away with whatever you currently have. An inverter for an IPS version of the R51 might be your best bet, check the R51 HMM for FRU #.I noticed that the inverter board called out on the maintenance manual shows XGA and SXGA+. The antenna might already be there, you'll find out once you remove the modem card. And yes, it is that simple. Also, I thought I might add bluetooth while i'm in there, in addition to the SATA mod. Is it as simple as swapping theh card, and adding the antenna wire?

You cannot use CPU, RAM and modem/bluetooth card from an R50p on an R52.

Re: Flexview 15" IPS sources
Ok, what determines what inverter to use with a particular panel? Are they somehow matched? I looked at a picture of a UXGA R50p inverter on ebay and it appears identical to mine, with exception of PN. The inverter's job is merely to drive the CCFL backlight correct? I realize there's some circuitry for the functional LED's there, but I'm wondering why everyone swaps inverters as well when doing a IPS/Flexview swap?
There doesn't also appear to be any R50p inverters in the US right now short of buying a parts machine, and i don't really need more parts lying around.

Re: Flexview 15" IPS sources
yes, I have all the manuals downloaded and open on my PC for a couple days now. Trouble is, the UXGA inverter for the R50p seems to be unobtainium. Can another one work in it's place on the UXGA screen? I'm assuming that the R50p UXGA cable is required. But the inverter seems to be less concrete.
And I have a nice UXGA screen and cable coming now, so the inverter is the only question.

Re: Flexview 15" IPS sources
Have I got news for you!
I have a complete, working R50p lid with Flexview 15" IPS UXGA.
It includes a Bluetooth antenna and matching R50p clearplate.
The screen has some darker left and right edges, but works fine otherwise.
No dead pixels, scratches or pressure marks.
I'd be happy to sell it to you.
PM me if interested, and make me an offer I cannot refuse...

Ack! You're a half hour too late. I have a UXGA screen and cable coming. I'm missing an inverter (if it's even truly needed, and a bluetooth antenna. care to part out? I won't be upset if not.
