X60s Touchpad upgrade - possible ? EDIT: +screen issue
X60s Touchpad upgrade - possible ? EDIT: +screen issue
I got a trashed X60s 1704 (core duo). It boots up fine aside from repairing a broken screen (parts are shipping)
I'd like to give it another upgrade : It does have trackpoint, and thats it. The palmrest only contains a fingerprint reader. Is there, by any chance, a replacement palmrest for this model which have a touchpad instead ? (including ones that may take a hack to connect them to the mainboard, no problem)

Re: X60s Touchpad upgrade - possible ?
Does the palmrest from any other model fit & possible to connect ? (again, if some hacking is called for its acceptable)
By the way, the LCD panel arrived and there is an issue : The original panel used to have the controller on the bottom, while the new on is on the top (like most panels). The flat cable connector is located according to the bottom controller panel though
I see on Ebay cables for this model of 2 types - bottom and top connector location. Is it ok to get a replacement flat cable with the connector on the top and fit it with the new panel (will it work with the existing mainboard), or i shall send back the panel and only use a bottom connection panel with bottom connection cable in this laptop ?
The existing cable is damaged anyway and i must replace it, so to me its easier/cheaper to just order the other cable and not ship back the panel etc. The 2 cables appear to be identical in the other connections location/shape

Re: X60s Touchpad upgrade - possible ? EDIT: +screen issue
The X6x tablet has touchscreen with a serial (or maybe parallel? not sure) port interface
X60/X61/X60s/X61s has really similar circuit to X6x tablet, i.e. might have that serial/parallel or whatever port it is
and an AC97 from the modem or USB from fingerprint or WWAN slot could be used as well
but without knowing the interface of touchpad nothing can be done really
sorry
As I remember X60s and X60 have different screens (X60s' is brighter and lighter and has the socket at the bottom.)
so you might need a X60 screen cable
hope this is helpful

Thanks
I meanwhile opened a new separate thread for the screen/touchscreen issue and got some answers there. As i allready have the panel i'd prefer to use it rather than return it
