M4-1 spacesaver keyboard (FRU 84G2529) mouse problem

#1 Post by lparsons » Mon Oct 14, 2013 9:27 am

I've had this keyboard for some time now, and recently I plugged it in and found that the trackpoint no longer works. Keyboard works fine, and in windows it is even recognized as both a keyboard and mouse (when using a PS2 -> USB adapter) but the trackpoint doesn't move the cursor any more at all. I've tried a few different computers and operating systems, but I get the same result on all. I've also tried a couple different PS2->USB adapters (of the Y-cable variety that use one USB port) as well as a dedicated PS2->USB mouse adapter and have had no luck.

I tried pulling the cable out of the keyboard and reconnecting it as well, with no luck. The only thing that has changed since the last time this keyboard worked is I moved halfway across the country with it. I had this keyboard packed in a hard plastic box with other computer components (including two IBM clicky keyboards with trackpoint) and there is no sign of physical damage.

Any ideas? Anything else I can try? I really want my trackpoint but the clicky keyboards drive my coworkers crazy!

Do you have it connected to the USB prior to booting it?
I had just gotten one in the mail, the keyboard works if you plug it in and out while the PC is running but it seems the Trackpoint will not.
Same FRU as yours, connected via the coil cable and that odd ethernet lookin connector.
