x60s fan replacement
hello, first time poster here.
so my x60s fan's been making some off-color sounds and i'm thinking about replacing it with a bargain fan from eBay. the lenovo support database here (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail. ... MIGR-62906) shows the following parts that are compatible between the X60, X60s, X61, and X61s:
41V9747 - Fan assembly, Ultra Low Voltage
41V9748 - Fan assembly, Ultra Low Voltage
41V9749 - Fan assembly, Standard Voltage
42W2522 - Fan assembly, Intel Core 2 Duo processor Standard voltage
42X3804 - Fan assembly, Low Voltage
42X3805 - Fan assembly, Standard Voltage
EDIT: striked entries represent incompatible fan assemblies.
i've done a search in the forums and found the following thread:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=104518
it seemed very helpful and informative, except the user's now been banned,
so which part number should my eBay fan correspond to for my x60s?

Re: x60s fan replacement
The Low and Ultra-Low Voltage fan assemblies are compatible with the X60s and X61s.
41V9747 - Fan assembly, Ultra Low Voltage
41V9748 - Fan assembly, Ultra Low Voltage
42X3804 - Fan assembly, Low Voltage
The Standard Voltage fan assemblies will not fit inside your X60s. These are taller and will only fit inside thel X60 and X61.

Re: x60s fan replacement
Caution:
You will find on eBay what is claimed to be the fan-ONLY part of the X60s/X61s heat sink assembly. The x60s/x61s fan is built into the heat sink metal, and canNOT be removed and replaced, plug-and-play style, with one of those eBay fans ... regardless of what the eBay listing claims. Unless you are willing to do "surgery" on the existing heat sink, buy the $30+ full heat-sink-fan assembly, and not just the $4 fan.

Here's someone who took apart the fan assembly on their X60s. Posting here for relevance.EOMtp wrote:Caution:
