4x4 bios beep codes

#1 Post by anystupidname » Mon Oct 21, 2013 2:14 pm

I offer my apologies if this has been asked or if I should be able to find this one google easily but I have not been able to. We just moved and an old T30 that has been quite the trooper will not post now and throws the 4 beeps 4 times which I feel like I should be able to find somewhere but I have not. I've reseated RAM and other things that could have gotten loose... :( Anybody know what the 4 time 4 beeps means?

From what I recall, without looking at the HMM, it's a code for security chip which has gone haywire, been tampered with or just might be loose...

Not a good one no matter how you look at it.

Remove the CMOS battery for a few minutes.
Also check that it has at least 3.0Volt.
Then put it back in and try to boot.
You will be asked to enter Date/Time.
This might help.

Wow, helpful as always. The CR2032 battery is putting out a single volt when it should be 3v I think?!? Probably the factory batt, hah! Anyway, probably a good call there. I'll try to figure out how to re shrink wrap a new one in this weird assembly. Thanks.

Depending where you live your local home build supply store like Home Depot or electronics store like Radio Shack will have shrink tubing originally designed for wiring. Since the wrap will shrink to half its size your probably looking for something in 5/8" to 1" size. Apply a light heat and your battery is shrink wrapped.

Here is an example of what Radio Shack has to offer......

And be careful to not break the connector off the motherboard. I id that to an otherwise fine T30 board and still haven't gotten it repaired yet.

Of course I've been deployed and haven't been home but now I am finally home, to attend to all sorts of unfinished tasks...
