Mavericks 10.9 on a T61(p)
Re: Mavericks 10.9 on a T61(p)
I'm having the same sleep issues with 10.9.2 on my T61P. Removing the rollback AppleACPIPlatform.kext fixes sleep, but causes those other issues (battery meter is broken, the "moon" stays lit, etc).
On the verge of erasing the disk and reverting to 10.9.1.
Please let us know, if anyone finds a solution.
Thanks!

Hey jzhang18 - any updates on the sound issues with your modified bootloader?jzhang18 wrote:Please try this -
http://www.tonymacx86.com/customization ... tly-2.html
It improve the performance for Intel HD Graphics card (such as x3100 in X61) , also Nvidia graphics card (used in T61 and T61p)
It makes windows popup and switching much smoothly. From "About this Mac" to show "System Report", just watch "Profiler Windows" showing up.
Recommended for everyone.
I'm using the one you posted to your site (boot.zip) on the previous page and I'm noticing the distorted sound issue. Is this indeed the version with IDA disabled?
EDIT: Nevermind - the distortion I was hearing was actually from a botched Voodoo configuration. No distortion here!

Using xcode 4.6, I can recompile the whole VoodooHDA project on my Mavericks 10.9.2 (cannot use xcode 5 or 5.1, because GCC is removed)CoBrA2168 wrote:Hey jzhang18 - any updates on the sound issues with your modified bootloader?
fixed some minor issues, but not pinpoint the major issue yet. (I can dump any message I want in console windows from my modified VoodooHDA.kext at run-time, but still need some analysis) .
Recently I moved on to Lenovo X201 with Mavericks 10.9.2 -- almost perfectly running. (internal camera, pci-express slot, graphics, sound, SD reader etc. sleeping is also good!)
It is light with just 3.2lbs and an i5 processor (M540, 2.53Ghz), so I can replace my x61 which just stuck at 10.7.5 due to Intel X3100.
Gaming on x201 is not as fast as T61 with Nvidia, but processor benchmark is far better. I hardly see the Apple Spin during booting with SSD.

Personally I run Mountain Lion 10.8.5 on my T61 with X3100 graphics. How you ask? Someone made a tool that uses a hacked kernel that can load ML in 32-bit mode. The tool is called MLPF (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1325709). It was designed for real Macs, but works great on my hack.
Performance is even better than Lion. I also have everything working (sleep, sound, TRIM, brightness, trackpad, USB, Bluetooth, battery info, etc.). If you need more information or help, I'm happy to give it.

Re: Mavericks 10.9 on a T61(p)
I had Mountain Lion running on X61 tablet. Everything worked including QE, the tablet and native audio, but there are problems because of the "jumpy mouse" issue that was also a problem for Lion. That made it unusable.
It's a specific hack, You cannot simply put an E/E folder to make it work. You need to create an installer disk with MLPostFactor. Then use the MLPF tool from the installer disk to modify an already installed ML system. (MLPF was designed for real macs, that's why it's not well developed for hackintosh.)
The MLPF tool modifies kexts in S/L/E.
That's the problem... it modifies the AppleIntelX3100FB.kext. So when you replace that kext with the AppleIntelX3100FB.kext that fixes "jumpy mouse"... then you lose QE and the graphics run very slow.
However, I haven't noticed the "jumpy mouse" issue on Intel Graphics (X3100) T61. So ML would work on that.
But it might be easier to just find a cheap T61P or T61 with NVIDIA graphics and install 10.9.1 Mavericks. Just saying.
Anyway, good luck. Hope you have better success with ML on X61 than I had with it. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
(any solutions for 10.9.2 on T61P yet? Please?)

Re: Mavericks 10.9 on a T61(p)
I see, "jumpy mouse" is my most concern, so you have the same issue on X61 tablet with ML. so I do not want to spend time on it because I have T61 with NVidia, running both ML 10.8.5 and Mavericks 10.9.1 pretty well.JaavrOS wrote:I had Mountain Lion running on X61 tablet. T61 is just too heavy to take it around. that is why I choose X-series Thinkpad.
I have X200(C2D, P8600), there is no way to make GMA4500 QE/CL, so I give it up
Then X201(i5, 1st-gen). Lucky to have GMA 5700mhd QE/CL from some genius hacking job. and all other hardware is also working as expected.
Maybe I can use some KEXTs from X201 to solve sleeping issue on T61 for 10.9.2, because X201 sleeping pretty well with 10.9.2, I will test it when I get some free time and let you know the result.

Just registered to say THANK YOU to everyone, especially Madara-Sans!
I just performed an installation of 10.9.2 on my T61P using Madara-Sans' /Extras on my T61P. Everything is working except, as noted above, sleep.
Madara-Sans - in regards to your new DSDT, are you going to be trying to get fan control working? If not, I'd be willing to take a crack at it, as I prefer to have the fan running at max speed at all times. I don't mind the noise, I just prefer the laptop to be cool.
Big thanks to all contributors in this forum section.

As someone else noted above, you cannot simply take a clean ML install and put it on there. The MLPF tool modifies a lot of the kexts and binaries to make it work.jzhang18 wrote:Wow, that's an amazing job!CoBrA2168 wrote: Personally I run Mountain Lion 10.8.5 on my T61 with X3100 graphics. Please attach your E/E package, I am so excited to give that a shot!
What I did was run the MLPF tool and then afterward copy over all of my custom kexts for my hackintosh. Doing so in that order didn't present me with any problems.
I noticed you said you were no longer interested since you will also have a "jumpy mouse" problem (I've never seen this on my T61, by the way). However, if you would like, I can still upload some of my files that I used to get it working. Just let me know if you're still interested in those.

The current DSDT have this option too: just have to press the blue ThinkVantage button, and the fan will speed up to it's max RPM.skeletor wrote: Madara-Sans - in regards to your new DSDT, are you going to be trying to get fan control working? I cleaned my T61p cooling fan, replace the dried thermal compound with Arctic Silver 5 ($6.99). running pretty cool now. -- formerly when I started StarCraft II for 10 minutes, it turned off automatically. now I tested for 2 hours, no issue at all.
Whole clean process, took me 30 minutes, need to pay attention to all screws, the difference location for difference size on the cooling fan and pipe.

Thank you, CoBrA2168 -- I keep my x61 with 10.7.5, I just installed a software called SmoothMouse from smoothmouse.com. improved 50%. so far it is OK to me.CoBrA2168 wrote: I noticed you said you were no longer interested since you will also have a "jumpy mouse" problem (I've never seen this on my T61, by the way). I moved on to x201, then x220.
I cannot make internal webcam working on my T61, but on x201, everything is working. I also found and tested 2 USB3 ExpressCards on x201, working with Mavericks

one is based on ASMedia 1042 chipset, the other is NEC uPD720202, both work flawless with GenericUSBXHCI.kext from MultiBeast - Mavericks 6.2.1, http://www.tonymacx86.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=219
If anyone have T61(p) comes with ExpressCard slot (not PCMCIA). then using above card to get USB3 ports, it should work. 2.5Gbps is really fast for clone or backup purpose.

Re: Mavericks 10.9 on a T61(p)
Yes. Removing those gobs of dried thermal has definitely lowered temps on my T61's and T61P. Lenovo added way too much thermal grease when they built these. I clean the old thermal off, and upgrade the cpu to T8300 or T9300's. Then add a small amount of Arctic Silver 5 to the CPU and GPU. Temps are much lower as a result. (I just use 91% isopropyl and q-tips or coffee filters to remove the old dry grease).
Also a good idea when the laptop is disassembled to blow compressed air thru the fan. And blow air from the outside into the fan vents (while it's disassembled). You'll likely see lots of dust fly out.

The same function as 91% isopropyl which can be easily found in any pharmacy store , but the smell is more like Acetone which is used for paint remover or nail cleaner. q-tips is always needed.

Re: Mavericks 10.9 on a T61(p)
Hey everybody, this is my first post and my english is not good...
now my frankenpad speacs macintosh! Everything is working (one exception) with full gaphicspower
)
my Laptop is a little bit different from yours: Quadro FX 570M with 128 MB Vram. So i edited ma dsdt and SystemInformation shows up 128 MB
not working: DVI
to my confusion in setup installation of mavericks the DVI-Port ist working!
Is there any solution for the DVI-Port? The Backlight is going down if i put the DVI-Kable in DockingStation. Just unplug the Kable and Backlight is going on.
Thank you all for your great work

Re: Mavericks 10.9 on a T61(p)
During setup, you did not use any DSDT.aml, Normal boot, it starts to use DSDT.aml (made from T61).Sieglinde Festkochend wrote: to my confusion in setup installation of mavericks the DVI-Port ist working!
So if you boot your laptop without DSDT.aml (just rename it as DSDT.bak for testing once). Could you get your DVI working? -- mostly it will, but you lose other features.
If that is true, you need to create your own DSDT from (for) your machine(T60p). not borrow it from T61.

It says they're non-toxic. That's always better. I'll look for those before I do the next take-apart. The same function as 91% isopropyl which can be easily found in any pharmacy store , but the smell is more like Acetone which is used for paint remover or nail cleaner. q-tips is always needed.

Re: Mavericks 10.9 on a T61(p)
Hello jzhang18,
just tested with DSDT=No and DVI is working!
I think, the DSDT ist a patched version for working with VGA (i found a thread in a different forum, can't remember where it was)
my Mainboard is original from T61p 14" 4:3 with FX 570 and 128 MB Vram. Only the Case (Body) is T60 because i want to use a very good Panel (IPS). There is one different thing: 128 instead 256 MB.
I have another T61p with FX 570 and 256 MB (original build from Lenovo) The DVI issue is just the same.
Edit: Sleep is working without DSDT
Maybe it helps to optimize the DSDT

Thanks Madara-san!
Testing the new kit now.
edit: The DSDT is working nicely. Thanks!!
The rest of the kit is also working well. Thanks for that.
Just to mention, I replaced the trackpad kext with RehabMan's kext. You might want to try it. It has nice scrolling accelerations and some gestures.

Re: Mavericks 10.9 on a T61(p)
Well, they are different "revisions" as I got throgh the patching process. The best is the main DSDT.aml. If there's a request, I'll release a version for the nVidia 140M too.
... but if you really want, I can write a changelog

Re: Mavericks 10.9 on a T61(p)
Hey Madara-san,
i am using an T61P with Nvidia Quadro FX 570M and DVI is still not working with this DSDT. Do you think there will be any solution? VGA is working, but not very good for my Display with 1080. Booting with DSDT=No works with DVI, but If i use this Flag there is no shutdown and many other Problems.
Thank you for your help!
