Thinkpad T410 Display Issues

#1 Post by Edemardil » Thu Oct 24, 2013 10:23 am

I have yet to find a resolve for this. I have searched.

I have a T410 ThinkPad 2522-W2R.
No enhancements made: Recently upgraded drivers for graphics and all other system updates AFTER this issue.
Windows 7 Professional.

I got it from my father in law when he died. It worked well until my brother in law took it back one day to do a backup of the memory because there was private info on there. Since then the display is wacky. Everything black shows as green moving pixels *IMG1* (videos and etc...) and some blues and whites show as red and black large pixels.
The contrast settings are correct. I checked and played around with most of the graphic settings and display settings. All the settings are the same as before the "crash". I updated EVERYTHING. Drivers etc...no fix.
It also does some weird distorted image type thing *IMG 2* on the ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery. I am trying now to just do a complete factory restore to see if that helps. NOTE: I have updated drivers and everything since seeing the problems. I cant even do a ThinkVantage or Factory restore because of how the load up looks. (Again see IMG 2)
Any ideas on how to fix this? I am using this laptop for a programming class and as a disabled veteran I cannot afford a new laptop or computer. I am attaching some images so you can see what I mean.

Welcome to the forum.

These are the specs ex-factory:
ThinkPad T410 (2522-W2R)
i5-520M(2.4GHz), 2GB RAM, 250GB 5400rpm HD, 14.1in 1440x900 LCD, Intel 5700MHD, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11agn wireless, WWAN upgradeable, Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, Camera, 6c Li-Ion, Win7 Pro 32

The screen resolution must be set to 1440x900, nothing else!
Where did IMG 3 come from?

Download Lubuntu and burn it onto a CD.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/GetLubuntu
Get the one where it says
PC 32bit
Standard Image disk

on the blue button.
Use a (free) program like ImgBurn http://www.imgburn.com/
If the screen is still distorted when you try to boot from the CD, you have a hardware problem.
Could be that the laptop was dropped and something broke, or the LCD cable is loose on the back of the LCD panel, or loose on the motherboard.
Let us know how this goes.

If screen is OK now, you have a Windows driver problem.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Check lcd cable connections. If connections are fine, you may need to replace the panel. Follow the HMM. Their may be a MIGR for this issue.

Try lubuntu like RealBlackStuff said. That will help determine it is a hardware issue. Another way to run it is to boot from USB drive using a utility like rufus (http://rufus.akeo.ie/). Hit F12 at startup to select USB drive as boot device.
