Older thinkpads..
Older thinkpads..
OK, so I've ignored the directive from the "spring cleaning of 2000" where I was... umm... well... "told" to find new homes for my older thinkpads and the time has come (my decision this time).
I haven't quite done an inventory yet, but I have 600e's a 600x or two, 560, 760, 390, and the like. Some are basically motherboards protected by the case, others are complete and functional.
If there is enough interest in them, I'll post in the marketplace and see where things end up.
The alternative is the electronics drop off area of the local landfill. I would think there are enough people here looking to fulfill the hobbyist's dream of rebuilding and restoring museum grade business machines. These were the best little computers ever built.
Should I post an inventory or just box them up and drop them off?

I'm quite sure some people will have interest on them. If it weren't the postage costs over the pond I would have sent you already a PM.
It would be really a shame if you send them to the electronics drop off

Re: Older thinkpads..
A few years back I had a completely working IBM convertible with a color screen, manuals, restore media, and every option available for it. I sold it online to a guy in Germany who paid $400USD to ship it. US Customs was a PITA about the lead in the solder..Tasurinchi wrote:I'm quite sure some people will have interest on them. I'll get a short list together starting with the complete ones. I was really hoping someone would have interest in them. I hate sending "good" stuff to the dump or recycle center.

Re: Older thinkpads..
I'd probably be interested in some of that old hardware-just a heads up. I love the old 700-series Thinkpads.
Trying my hardest to collect Thinkpads, but college and being broke kinda gets in the way. However...

Re: Older thinkpads..
I could use a working 600x motherboard. Other then that I need a good 755cd LCD screen and a screen for a 701cs.
The vast majority of my collection is 100% complete and functional, but I do have a few parts machines myself and I will probably junk some of them this coming year (broken plastics and bad boards mostly).
Sometimes you are just better off buying complete parts machines on ebay then paying for specific parts.

Do you have any iSeries ThinkPads? Good/working condition samples of those seem to be far and few between.Unknown_K wrote:I could use a working 600x motherboard. Other then that I need a good 755cd LCD screen and a screen for a 701cs.

Re: Older thinkpads..
AFAIK, a number of i Series Thinkpads have problems with hinges. The plastic breaks around the screw posts that hold the hinge to the lid.Do you have any iSeries ThinkPads? Good/working condition samples of those seem to be far and few between.
They can be considered the Edge series of the older generations, low-cost units slapped with a Thinkpad logo. :O

I have a couple but as stated the hinges are junk, poorly made machines.

Re: Older thinkpads..
Mine has perfect hinges and is in like brand-new condition (I suppose that makes it uncommon?). You have to be very careful when opening it, and it has to be done in a specific way, you have to sort of ride the tension. It's also important to ensure the hinges are screwed on tightly.Unknown_K wrote:I have a couple but as stated the hinges are junk, poorly made machines.
It's a neat windows 98 laptop. My only issue is that it only has wireless and no ethernet port haha.
You can tell it was acer-made from the bronze painted plastic inside, and the three audio jacks (acer always incorporated line-in, not many thinkpads do as it's an acerism). Oh yeah, and the ALi chipset.

Re: Older thinkpads..
I have an I-series, in very nice condition. It didn't travel so it never got beat up. It was one of only 2 TPs over the years that had a HDD failure. We had the HDD replaced with an 8 or 10GB and it has W98SE on it. No Ethernet, but it did take PCMCIA WIFI cards. the battery is probably NFG any more. I don't remember any problems with the hinges. It was a nice machine for its time. I then got spoiled by 760 series at work and the later T-series.Theokretes wrote:Do you have any iSeries ThinkPads?
