The T42 is every bit as thin, if not thinner as the pictures make them look. A couple weeks ago, I gave a robotics engineering presentation at a middle school and a teacher had a T42 set up for me to run my PowerPoint on. I didn't even see that thing on the desk at first because the lid was closed.

I'm thinking about buying a T series when longhorn comes out. My 760's still getting the job done and I just don't want to have to worry about buying a new laptop and it not supporting longhorn so if I can, I'll just wait another year or two, unless of course I get a raise this year. 8)
ThinkPad T60: 2GHZ CD T2500, 3gb RAM, 14.1" XGA, 60gb 7k100, Win 7 Ult

i too was surprised at how thick it looks in some of the pictures but once you're actually holding it in your hands it's actually quite small.

Longhorn was one of the reasons i ended up getting a t42 with radeon 9600.
Since the longhorn gui will require a DX9 compatible video card, the vast majority of notebooks wont be able to run it :D
