Did new T4x units require XP activation? [SOLVED]

#1 Post by jonzilla » Sun Nov 17, 2013 10:17 pm

Hi all, I'm wondering about what the original owner experienced when he would first turn on his Thinkpad. Was there a requirement to activate Windows XP, or were these machines delivered pre-activated?

What George said ^^, plus the new user is offered the opportunity to register (which is different from activation) with both Microsoft and IBM. You get the same offer today if you use restore disks to re-install the original factory image.
