C:/ibmtools ?

#1 Post by JLai » Sat May 14, 2005 12:11 am

Is it ok to del "c:/ibmtools" ? Or maybe the "apps" subfolder? The thing is taking up over a gig.

Thanx ahead.

-Joe

Oh yeah...sorry if this is a repeated question. Didn't find an answer in my search.

I would copy the files to cd first. There are some progs that have only updates available on the ibm site such as the dvd player.

Most definitely, if you enjoy IBM TP please do not delete the IBMTOOLS FOLDER. It contains your drivers and apps. If you dislike the idea it takes so much of your space copy the directory to several CD(s). I repeat to several CD(s).

I just copies mine to a DVD then it all fits...also copied other Apps specific to my needs. This works fine.

IBM Update Connector created the ibmtools directory and the uninstaller does not remove it so I deleted the directory a long time ago with no regret after uninstalling IBM Update Connector.

If you have drivers and/or apps in there, it's only because that directory was pointed to during extraction in preparation for install or placed there by IBM on a newly purchased ThinkPad and there is no harm in deleting them after install completes. Same goes for the c:/drivers directory.

Instead, I save the downloaded file(s) of the current, and previous two, version of installs/updates via IBM's Software Installer in the same place I keep my backups after compressing them using winzip.
