Display Questions? (HD vs Premium HD)

#1 Post by warreng24 » Sat Nov 30, 2013 11:23 pm

I realize that my X201i can't last forever, so I am looking at possibly replacing it with an X230. What's up with all the new display types?

I'm a big fan of the old school anti-glare displays, like the one on my old T42 (1400x1050). I've got the same anti-glare type display on my X201i (1280x800).

I'd like to get an anti-glare display on a new laptop as well. So, looking at the X230... which one is an ant-glare display? The "HD" or "Premium HD" display?

I'll assume that neither is? Does Lenovo even still offer the old school anti-glare screens? Or is everything all shiny and reflective like my iPad display?

Thanks!

They're all matte/anti-glare.

"Premium" is an IPS screen, the standard one is TN. That's all.

I believe Lenovo did offer some vibrant view LCDs on the R series back in the day. Some might consider the tablets glare type because of the reflections from glass writing surface, but ThinkPads are mostly matte. Spending the $50 for the HD Premium IPS LCD on the X230 is highly recommended and probably the best thing you can do to improve the experience on the X230. I might also suggest hitting the outlet for better pricing.
