very confused about xseries
very confused about xseries
i need a laptop for college....
i will have my main desktop in my dorm so i basically just need this laptop for notes and campus wireless use etc. so the size factor of x series is necessary
but all the models (x40, x41, x32) are confusing me... i want to know what would be best for around $2200?

Just my opinion. You can buy the best one if you can use the EDU discount. X41 has faster graph card, it may run the Longhorn in the future, but shorter battery life.. X32 has the most powerful cpu and harddisk, moderate battery life, a litter heavier and older than X40s. X40 has the longest battery life if you are using the 8 cell battery.

If I'm not mistaken, the X4x series has a slightly better battery life than the X3x. If you don't play much games, or require much CPU power, then the X4x series is great for all your needs.chbone wrote:Just my opinion. You can buy the best one if you can use the EDU discount. after reading around im leaning towards the x32...my only other reason to get an x40 would be the deal for the free ultrabase... what is included in the ultrabase? and could i survive without one with the x32? (aka could i just get a usb optical drive instead?)
where should i purchase my laptop? from ibm's website or should i look around..?

You can get the top of line X32 2885-K4U with the EDU discount for approximately $1700 plus tax.
See Link: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=10672
As far as the free ultrabase, this model after the discount cost about $6 more than the idenical model without the ultrabase. The VISA/Mastercard discount on the above model is approximately 10% while the AmEx discount on the above model is approximately 20%.
What is confusing is IBM/Lenovo pricing...some of the express models with more actually cost less.
Please read all of the post under X41 v X32:

lower right side "student pc purchases"
you may have to choose 'all products' instead of 'in stock'. it seems all of the X-40/41s are out of stock for a cpl of weeks.

Shouldn't matter which CC you have for the edu site
There are credit card discount sites too...
http://www.ibm.com/businesscenter/visa
I think the amex one is /amex
The prices are usually the same, but I think thinkpad protection may be cheaper on one than the other (by $30). But that one may charge for shipping so it equals out...
