x220 Card Reader not working on Windows 8.1

Hey,

So I installed Windows 8 (Clean install, no upgrades) on the machine and since then the card reader isnt working. I downloaded and installed the drivers from Lenovo Website and after failing from Driver Genius and then from ThinkVantage System Update 5.03. Still doesn't work, I install them, but after I reboot it is installed but the card reader doesn't work (It was working before on Windows 7 on the same day I installed W8). I updated to 8.1 and the problem continues.

Throw out that POS W8 and revert back to W7.
Then wait for W9 to come out, if you must upgrade.

Check the driver file C:\DRIVERS\WIN\multicard\Driver\risdxc.inf
Open in Windows Notepad. You can make changes and save the file.

In particular, check the following section. The PCI\VEN number might be wrong. It was wrong on mine (with the driver downloaded from Lenovo) causing the card reader to not work in Windows 7.

IIRC, you can run C:\DRIVERS\WIN\multicard\setup.exe to reinstall the driver with the changes applied.
