Noisy fan...

#1 Post by Olwe » Thu Dec 19, 2013 9:21 pm

My T61 (14" T7300@2.0, TYPE 7661-12U, Intel 965GM) needs a quieter fan. I've already thrown an ebay do-it-yourself just-the-fan at it -- to no avail. What I'm thinking I need is the whole fan/heatsink combo with a good, untampered-with fan already in it. Can anyone advise me where to get one? I see stuff on Ebay, but I'm not sure which one I want....

I got the same fan noise problem with my T61 (7659-01U). Look up the HMM only Toshiba (42W2460) and Furukawa (44C0825) to choose from. Both are Integrated HSF. Anyone have try the discrete HSF Toshiba(42W2462) or Furukawa(44C0557) ?

Thanks in advance.

I have read that thread but it relates to T60 not T61. Sometime noise is from a poor constructed fan and no the result of spinning speed and overheating. Thanks for sharing.

My T61 is 14.1 widescreen with x3100 gpu will a t500 fan fits?

... if your questions are not answered after thoroughly reading the above-mentioned thread (?), then see the thread My Frankenpad Conversion and Heat Sink Mods [+PICS]!

I'd feel safest just replacing the whole fan-heatsink unit, but I need to know what part number to get (see stats above). Do I want the FRU or P/N: 42W2460 or something else? The present fan is sickly rattly, not "loud."

Just found on Taobao (Chinese ebay) two oem fans for T61. I will order after Chinese New Year holiday (peak season for gifting) and report back. The Toshiba model cost RMB33 and Furukawa model for RMB $40 plus shipping.

Try oiling the fan. I had a noisy T60 and now it's quiet as can be. I thought the fan was done, but one drop of 3-in-1 oil solved it! Been running well for about 6 months since.

How do you oil a fan? I'm looking at mine and I can't see any place to add the drops. . . .
