Help with BSOD

#1 Post by emtee3511 » Mon Dec 30, 2013 6:15 pm

I know we are not supposed to cross-post on the Forum, so I am hoping I can get some help for a Forum member whose post is here: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... 56#p723556

The Forum member has been trying to fix a BSOD and posted for help in the T430/T530 Board more than two weeks ago. Unfortunately, I am the only Forum member who has replied with possible fixes (which he has tried), but he is still dealing with the issue. I know there are expert ThinkPadders here (I am not one!), and I am really hoping someone will have time to at least read his posts and possibly offer some expert input.

Thanks for any input you may have, and if I have broken a rule in posting this, Mods please delete for me :?

Similar problem I sometime have as a result of cloning. Don't really matter which software you use, cloning is sometimes hit and miss. Better chance of hitting if you clone with destination drive in the HDD bay. This is peculiar but is "generally" true for Thinkpads.

From many of my posts to people looking to switch from HDD to SSD, I've always recommend doing a clean install. I've always like a fresh start. It's not that difficult to copy data over and load the software that I want. It also takes a lot less time and works much better than trying to hack together, diagnose and run around in circles trying to fix a system that is behaving this way after cloning. I have the feeling the OP in that thread don't want to hear this.....just a gut feeling. Better sometimes to let him stew over this for a while. He might luck out and find the solution by chance or give up and do a fresh install.

Even then a fresh install is no guarantee, nothing is. Could be a defective SSD (yes even when new) or a SSD that needs a firmware update.

I never bothered with the T430 (and its other non-Thinkpad ilk) forums, so never saw it.
But I agree with Cigarguy: fresh install should solve it.

Also, the Samsung 840 could be faulty, see here: http://www.anandtech.com/tag/samsung-ssd-840
