X200t Battery Cycle Life

#1 Post by Mugrunty » Thu Jan 02, 2014 9:18 pm

Hiya!

I haven't made any posts here in a few billion years, but I thought I'd see how other people's X200t batteries are doing. I've had mine almost 4 years, and it's literally the only battery I've ever had that hasn't given me the "battery error, go buy another one because I hate you" message. I've had 4 batteries for my T60, and T61 give that same error. Some were 6-cell packs, some were 9-cell. I've taken them all apart and done my own diagnosis, but that's another post for another time.

The X200t 4-cell battery I have seems to NOT use the SANYO 18650 cells...which as far as I'm concerned is a good thing. Either that, or it can balance whatever cells are inside without being so sensitive to an "out of balance" condition.

Ok, so the bottom line is...my battery seems to be doing a VERY good job at being a battery. Check out the current status of the battery according to PM:

I'm getting really close to 1000 cycles, and the overall capacity is still at 86% of the design capacity. Is anyone else getting numbers this good??? Just curious! :)

T60 6-cell (Linux OS, data from TLP):

+++ ThinkPad Battery Status (Main)
/sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT0/manufacturer = Panasonic
/sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT0/model = 92P1139
/sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT0/manufacture_date = 2007-05-11
/sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT0/first_use_date = 2007-08-11
/sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT0/cycle_count = 1095
/sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT0/design_capacity = 56160 [mWh]
/sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT0/last_full_capacity = 48470 [mWh]

86,3 % of capacity left after 6,5 years is rather good. Lenovo "fixed" this though, and X220 battery with Sanyo cells has been a disaster for me.

No way man :D

Mine have the same degradation long before 200 cycles, but then again they aren't X200t batteries.

My guess is, that they started to use cheap low quality cells and modified battery management somehow to kill them faster

Still going! :)

I haven't done a reset in a while, and I know that with this particular battery it always goes up. It seems to overestimate the capacity loss if not reset in a long time. I rarely go below 20%. The last reset I did was on 5/22/2014 @ 1116 cycles and it was at 24.4Wh or 84.7% of design capacity. I wonder how long this will go for before giving the blinking orange light of horrible sadness?
