R50e broken hinges and White LCD

#1 Post by Wiking » Sat Jan 04, 2014 5:28 pm

Hi,
I have an R50e for a long time now. About 2 years ago, replaced the LCD completely for a new one. This is my mothers PC.
Few days ago, the left hinge just broke and from this moment the LCD only show white picture. Yes, the LCD cable stretched for about half cm. Took the pc and hooked it to external monitor via VGA port. On the external monitor, I see everything and the whole PC is working fine. Now, If the LCD shows only white picture, can I assume that I need to change only the LCD cable and the hinge for normal use ?
I don't want to buy new LCD cable and then discover that the problem is something else.
What do you think ?
Thank you for helping.
Lior

I have once fixed a white LCD on a thinkpad by reseating the LCD cable, which was not properly seated. It is highly likely that this is the case with yours too. You need not buy anything before trying that. Just remove the LCD front bezel and check the LCD cable where it connects to the LCD panel.
