lenovo t430 hardware issue

#1 Post by avins_in » Wed Jan 08, 2014 2:33 am

Hello,

I am using lenovo thinkpad T430 2349-UGU laptop. I have inserted a sim card in the sim card slot beneath the battery bay. The sim card does not show up in the device manager. I had a chat session with thinkpad support who told that WLAN/WWVAN card should come installed. Any suggestions on how to use the sim card ?

Regards,
avi

first, welcome to the forum..

next, your IP points to singapore but you have bangalore in your location field..
would really like to know which is your home base area.. :)

as for the SIM card in a T430 i can't help BUT my first guess would be that it needs to be a lenovo branded SIM card..
did you ask the support agent that question..?

Hi
Is there a WWAN module installed?

Most often they aren't
Thinkpad W500 (2.53 GHz P8700, 4 GB RAM, FireGL V5700, WUXGA)
Thinkpad T61F 14" (2.53 GHz QX9300, 6 GB RAM, Quadro FX570m 256 MB, SXGA). Advanced dock with AMD Radeon HD7750
Custom build ITX desktop (i5 4590, 8GB RAM, AMD R7 260X, custom watercooling)
Thinkpad 8, Fujitsu F-07C

FS: T61F

According to the specs, your machine should have WWAN:

T430 (2349-UGU)
i5-3230M(3.2Ghz), 4GB RAM, 500GB 7200rpm HD, 14in 1366x768 LCD, Intel HD Graphics, DVD-ROM, Intel 802.11agn wireless, WWAN, Bluetooth, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure Chip, Fingerprint reader, Camera, 6c Li-Ion, Win7 Pro 64

Unless you bought the machine secondhand, and the previous owner took it out.

On the bottom of the laptop, in the middle, is a lid that you can remove.
Under there is the WWAN card.

Hello,

Can anyone please assist in this issue. The thing is I want to insert a 2G/3G SIM card and use it. Is any dedicated WWAN hardware is required ?
Also, can anyone tell me regarding the gps capability, how is it exactly used and is any dedicated hardware is needed with the laptop.

regards,
avi

I have a T430 2349 too and I don't have that card. you won't detect it without having that card. just remember to take out the battery BEFORE opening that panel.
