Does a T500 Display Port rely on discrete graphics?

#1 Post by Jumeaux » Wed Jan 08, 2014 5:39 am

Hey forum,

my T500 (Win7 on a 2082-6QG) has the discrete graphic card problem. Switching in BIOS to "Discrete" or "Switchable Graphics" leaves the machine dead with no other option than removing the BIOS battery to reset to internal graphics. Latter works fine. With this only option left I planned to use an external DVI monitor via Display Port and an adapter. Now, I do not get a signal on the external monitor though this adapter worked well before the soldering of the graphic card cracked.

Does the Display Port only work with a functional discrete graphic card?

Thank you for your help and opinions.

Cheers,
Chris

I am about 99.1% certain that any video signal sent through the display port requires the ATI card to be full functional in regards to the T500 (w/ATI 3650 & Intel X4500MHD switchable graphics). If anyone can verify this for OP and I thanks :)

I can confirm what emeraldgirl08 has posted. If the ATI card is busted, the displayport will not function.

This is really strange. It is said that the display port can't update sound because of limitations of the Intel integrated graphics. If the display port was using the discrete graphics, it should be able to output sound.

No, it isn't. Thanks for being unhelpful. Like I said, I already know that it doesn't support audio, and it is because of a lack of chipset support. However, the discreet ATI graphics chipset does support audio-out, so it is a little disappointing for the T500 and related laptops to not take advantage of this.
