MacBook Frankies? Flipping MBPs from eBay to local sales?

#1 Post by Saucey » Mon Jan 20, 2014 8:33 pm

Pretty much I was wondering if there was a way to bring a 2006 Black MacBook and toss a new mobo and screen onto that system?
Unless Apple changed where the battery location or where the CPU fan is at... then I wouldn't try it.
I remember seeing someone toss a small LCD to where the Apple logo goes on the lid and having it change into a different image or color.
That looks like alot of fun.

I might grab used MBP off of eBay, upgrade it possibly and resell it locally to gain a $200 profit.
Or should I not try to do that? I have a feeling I'd have better chances reselling laptops in general in Los Angeles, my desert town has no market for ThinkPads sadly.

edit: I forgot to ask, has anyone ever tried selling MacBooks in person? How is it and any tips?

It's your money, but in my opinion, I don't think that there is a market for used 1st gen black MacBook's. Most of the modder stuff is a small community from what I recall back in my days as a kool-aid drinking Mac user.

I don't recommend flipping on used PC hardware, whatever the brand.

Saucey. It is really up to you and your judgment on what type of notebook to flip. It may differ from region to region on what is popular and affordable etc. There are factors and there is demographics. If you are able to you might run one experiment and flip a mac and see how well that goes the first time. Do it again if you can afford it and so forth. Considering how popular and perpetuated Macs are I am betting you might do well with the sales. Now when are you going to find time for that little project we discussed if you are too busy flipping Macburgers?! :P
