FS: Crazily modified T61 P8800 6GB 160GB SSD

#1 Post by RMSMajestic » Sat Jan 25, 2014 2:03 pm

Made some change, don't wanna spend any more time on this machine. Got a lot of work to do.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 085wt_1309

Please ignore the ebay price. I have following deals for Thinkpad forum members
200 GBP for the P8800/6GB/no HDD/SXGA+ screen/FPR/BT 2.1/4965 agn/MC8775 (excluding postage)
or 120GBP for the motherboard and the 6GB RAM (excluding postage)
or 70GBP for the motherboard alone (excluding postage)(you need to know how to flash RAM SPDs)

==========================Please ignore below==================================
===========================================================================
The T61 in my signature, selling to get some money, as well as raising funds for possible T50 imports
Detailed specs please see here:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231144647424

A bit extra information:
The f3607gw is an engineering sample, but works perfectly fine and has original FRU

Forget about the ebay price, that's just a cap. But I will expect buyer to have some knowledge about laptops as written on ebay

I'm looking for about 400GBP (100+90(CPU)+60(RAM)+60(SSD)+50(network adapters & antennas)+40(LCD)) for the laptop alone excluding postage

might be a bit high for a 7 year old laptop but that's really just the cost :cry:

Q: Why did I do such crazy but pointless things instead of getting a new laptop with i7?

A: First of all, I want to flip off Samsung, LG-Philips, Sharp, AUO, and Chimei for cut off the 4:3 screen production line. I'd rather pay 100 GBP more for a screen that is not "compressed and crushed".

Secondly, I wanna flip off Lenovo for ruining our beloved thinkpad after W701
Sadly I'm not in the market for this, but I just wanted to say thumbs up sir, thumbs up! :D

Very nice Frankie you built there. I've never gone to such extremes in tweaking one as I like to keep them more compatible with "off the shelf" parts, but that is a nice nice build. I do wonder why you didn't start with a 15" T60 frame though, but it shouldn't be hard to change that if someone is inclined to do so and considering the parts you have into it and the work to mod them, you're price isn't unreasonable at all and if you were local I might even donate some plastics to help dress it up for your sale.

Good luck with your auction and greetings from your friends across the pond.

btw, just curious, when you hacked the PAE in windows XP, did you use a server 2003 key to activate it, or an activation hack? I've heard the XP activation will fail when this is done and can make the system unstable with some drivers.

Also thanks for posting here, we all enjoy seeing these types of machines. The most extreme 4:3 I have is a 15" T60p with an NOS FX570m board, 8 GB ram, X9000 cpu, and Hydis LED IPS screen. I have an insane amount of money invested in it (well into the 4digits), and I don't even use it often, but it's my favorite laptop by far.

15" T60 is heavy.... I don't think anything heavier than 2.5kg can be regarded as a laptop so I didn't get one, but might get one in the future for the screen

PAE is originally contained in windows XP, it's microsoft who put a limit there and make kernel unstable when cracked. I modified kernel and hal file, some of the USB devices can not function properly but it's fine for me as I seldomly format a USB drive or use a video cam

My favourite laptop is stil X61, just need some money for SXGA screen.

I would absolutely love to have something like this... but money, plus the fact that I'm quite a-ways away from the United Kingdom, is a bit in the way. 400 GBP is a good $670- which is pretty steep, even for an absolutely bonkers 4:3 machine.

I would love to see something like this in the form of a 15" T60 chassis. That would be by far the most ridiculous and crazy Frankenpad ever seen.

But good luck with the sale, and props for success with the mod. It truly is a "Crazily modified T61".
Trying my hardest to collect Thinkpads, but college and being broke kinda gets in the way. However...

I can pull the X9100 out and reduct the price to 500USD (300GBP) if you want, postage might be another 40-50GBP Not sure if California is import tax free though, or maybe you can ask one of your friends in an import tax free state to help you.

@RMSMajestic:
is it really necessary to answer each post with a Quote?
There's a nice postreply button on the left side, under the last post of any thread.
May I suggest you use that instead?
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

I've made some changes, motherboard alone for 70GBP (~120 USD), motherboard with 6GB RAM for 120GBP (~200 USD) or P8800/6GB/no HDD/FPR/BT2.1/4965agn/MC8775 for 200GBP (~340 USD). All excluding postage. so for those of you who are in another continent the price should be more fair now. :)
