t420 speaker issue

#1 Post by jpapier » Mon Jan 27, 2014 5:37 pm

At the beginning of January I bought a t420 4177-CTO off Ebay.
Only one problem is the speakers don't work, I do get sound through the headphone jack.
Ran all the tests in Win7Pro 64 bit and toolbox.
Mute and volume buttons show up on screen as working.
Soundcard driver shows up as loaded.
Removed the keyboard and bezel, pulled and checked jack & speaker connections.

Am I right in thinking this could be a stuck switch in the jack and replacing it
would be a fix or are there other causes I am missing?

Well my T420 still has individual volume controls/shows individual playback devices even with my headphones plugged in, and i still hear the sound when adjusting the volume (that ding sound, hope you know what i'm talking about), so that's one thing you could try. I am using the Dolby mod, BTW, not sure if it makes a difference.
