X201 drive has 4-pin power connector, new SSD doesn't
The original drive in my X201 is a Western Digital 7200rpm drive model WD3200BEKT-08PVM that I noticed has a 4-pin power connector in addition to the regular SATA connector. I'm looking to install a SSD and found a model I like but it doesn't have the 4-pin connector. Will I still be able install and use it or do I need one with the power connector also?

SATA drives don't need that 4-pin connector, that's an old-style one that was put in extra..
SSDs and newer HDs get their power from the 15-pin SATA connector, and signals come via the 7-pin SATA connector next to it.

Is there a "how to post" for putting an SSD in an X200/X201?

Thanks, RBS. What sort of SSD/adapter hardware should I be shopping for for my used X201 3680-CS4? (I'm typically an Ebay shopper.) I have the standard caddy.

There's nothing special (pysically) about swapping a HDD for a SSD. Just follow the instructions in the maintence manual on swapping HDD. As for the software "howto", that depends on what OS you will be using. I recommend a fresh Win 7 or Win 8 install. There's lots of instructions on the web on how to install Windows or Linux for that matter.
When you pull out your old drive, put it physically aside. That way you can always put it back in until you get your new SSD up and running.

SATA2 or SATA3 on an X201? Here's one on Ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-64GB-1- ... 51b06454dd. Would it fit or do I need a separate adapter?

Either SATA 2 or 3 will work fine.
The X201 needs 2.5" HD/SSD, so find an adapter for this 1.8" SSD such as this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/121254217049
