x240 vs x220
x240 vs x220
Received my x240 a few days ago, core i5 4300u (2.9ghz max) 4gb ram, and i put in a samsung 830ssd.
My old x220, with a core i5 2520m (3.2ghz max) 8gb ram, and now running an intel ssd,
I noticed chrome browser opens and loads a touch faster on the x220 in a side by side comparison. Then i noticed you tube videos will also load and play slightly faster on the x220. This lead me to run a benchmark on the two machines using passmark 8.0.
The x240 has a slightly better overall score, but the individual scores, the x220 is faster in everything except 3d graphics.
I would have preferred lenovo kept the x220 form factor and installed a full power haswell chip. The fn keys are difficult to use and i much preferred having real buttons to use with the trackpoint. i dont really notice the difference in weight (.2lbs). The thinner chasis is nice but at the expense of major performance and expansion limitations... oh well.

Re: x240 vs x220
The extra ram in the X220 might make the response time a bit faster.
I noticed that on my X200 when I upgraded from 4 to 8 gigs.

To have Fn keys first you can press Fn+Esc for FnLock. I would like to have this option in bios.
I have X220 and x240 and I hate tracpoint without real buttons, it is a bit better if you will change in setting buttons for large size.
For the speed remember X240 has just one memory channel, well equipped x220 will be faster than x240 but x240 will work longer on the battery.

Re: x240 vs x220
I'm going to upgrade to 8gb ram, hopefully that will give the x240 a little more push.
Anyone know if going with ddr3 14900 will have any benefits or is the motherboard maxed out at 12800?
I know it is silly but I was hoping for better performance because I enjoy playing Diablo 3 on occasion and I found the x220 was barely capable. I even went with the standard low res screen hoping for better video performance!
Tron thanks for the fn lock tip, didnt realize there was a little green light on the fn key

Be aware of you can not use End key in Fn-Lock mode (it becomes Insert)Tr0n wrote:To have Fn keys first you can press Fn+Esc for FnLock.

Yes I know but fortunately I am using Insert more often then End. End of course will work like Fn-Insert. Much bigger problem for me is with PgUp and PgDn keys which I am pressing by accident when I am using arrows and in my spreadsheet I am on different place I would like to be. I hope next generation x240 will not have the keyboard from the new X1.Puppy wrote:Be aware of you can not use End key in Fn-Lock mode (it becomes Insert)Tr0n wrote:To have Fn keys first you can press Fn+Esc for FnLock.

Re: x240 vs x220
I got used to the PgUp/PgDn position on my T440s but I hope the "adaptive" keyboard from X1 will NEVER get to the main T/X/W models.Tr0n wrote:Much bigger problem for me is with PgUp and PgDn keys which I am pressing by accident when I am using arrows and in my spreadsheet I am on different place I would like to be.
