T60 X1400 HD Decoding

#1 Post by Zakqfb » Wed Feb 05, 2014 7:56 pm

In my T60
(Core Duo T2500, Ati X1400, 2GB ram)
I can watch most 720p videos. I was reading that the X1400 supports Avivo.
I just have the driver installed, but not Catalyst. Will enabling Avivo make a diference in HD videos?
Because I don't know a lot of this HD playback thing. But if Catalyst is not installed, then Avivo is not enabled, then if Avivo is not enabled the CPU is doing all the decoding right?

The X1400 does not have the UVD (Unified Video Decoder), so it can't decode anything.

If you want to improve HD video playback, there are a few options:

1. Upgrade to a Core 2 Duo CPU (with a clock speed at least as fast as your T2500), since it has better SSE2/3 performance.

2. Put a Broadcom 70015 HD decoder card in the slot for the wifi card. :(

3. Use a more efficient media player application.
