Exact info on T43 UXGA -> T60 15" swap?

#1 Post by Medessec » Wed Feb 12, 2014 4:11 am

Hello! I've been reading constantly on UXGA swapping and I keep hearing sob stories and trouble concerning screens not working because of EDID problems.

I've swapped a T43 UXGA into a T60 for the second time, and it was basically plug and play. And this is a totally different panel as well. The first swap involved some BoeHydis UXGA panel, very bright, very nice. This swap I just performed, the screen had an "IDTech" sticker on the back-haven't read the model no. yet. I haven't finished securing the screen inside, so I'll post the number when I get to it.

I just wanted to know, what is the exact circumstances considering specific panels being swapped into the T60? Do some motherboards have EDID chips with more codes than other T60 motherboards?

A lot of gray areas here...

T43p was never officially shipped with a Hydis (13N7076) LCD. However, late machines sometimes sport these and they are obviously "plug & play" on T6x series since they do have the EDID chip.

ID Tech is a more complicated story: the ones from R50p/T42p/T43p are not supposed to work since they are missing the aforementioned chip altogether, but sometimes they do.

When Lenovo ran out of Hydis screens during the T60/p era, they re-used a bunch of ID Techs that they had on hand and gave them a different FRU number which I can't recall right now. It does start with a 4 and not with a 9 like on T4x series, that much I remember. HMM doesn't mention the ID Tech panels whatsoever, though.

It's a bloody mess...

lol. Well, to be fair to IBM, a lot was going on at the time, so I'm not surprised...

I have a screen out that was similar to the one I swapped into the T60, but it has a bad bulb... It's FRU is: 92P6753. I took pictures of the back of the panel I did put in the T60 that's working right now, and after looking at them it seems it had the same exact FRU apparently.

Can't remember the Model No. of the Hydis panel off the top of my head... but I think it might've been one of those HV150UX1-101s.

Yep. That's ID Tech found in R50p/T42p/T43p.

That would be a -100 variety, not 101, but close enough.

Hmm... interesting. I suppose I'll poke this topic if I find anything else interesting- as I have numerous busted panels. I think I may have another Hydis as well somewhere. I'm attempting a bulb change on one of these IDTechs as it has a bulb going red. I've got another bulb in there that works already, but the sides of the screen are darkened. Is that the LCD matrix fried, or is that the bulb I used not fitting properly?

Anyways, off-topic. But i'll repost if I find anything interesting.

How to replace an IDTech CCFL: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=88991
Getting darker along the L-R sides usually means that the LCD-polarizer is worn out by UV-light.

Is the polarizer the screen you can touch on the LCD?
I... might try the Retrobrite solution on an LCD in other words.
