T540p Graphics Offering

#1 Post by tyjc93 » Tue Feb 18, 2014 2:40 am

Hey guys,

I am coming over from a Early 2011 Macbook Pro and am looking at the T540p. I plan on getting either the 4700QM or 4800QM CPU, 4Gb of RAM, standard 5200RPM HDD and am tossing up between the 1080 screen and the 3K screen option. The thing is I will be running this computer of battery power a lot (opting for the 9 Cell upgrade) and to keep power consumption low I intend to lock out the discrete graphics when on battery power.

Two questions I have are:
Will the Intel integrated graphics be enough to power the 3k screen smoothly on battery power at its full resolution and,

Will the integrated graphics be able to power the 3k screen with an additional monitor connection as well?

I am quite concerned that the integrated chip won't be powerful enough - though I only base that on the HD3000 graphics chip I have in the MBP being a little slow with BluRay movies. I don't intend to game much, when using multiple screens I will just be doing research and word processing, 20-30+ Tabs, MS Word, Endnote, iTunes & a few PDFs all open at once.
