X40 crashes

#1 Post by rbmartin » Fri Jun 18, 2004 8:09 pm

I am having problems with my new X40 - at random times, but usually 3-4 times a day my wireless connection drops. Usually within a minute or two the entire system hangs and has to be powered off and on. I have also seen a blue screen of death on occasion.

Lan adapter is the Intel 2100.

I have tried:

1. Disabling Access Connections.
2. Updating the wireless driver and Access Connections to the latest version.

No problems when using the 1000bt connection.

My next thought is to junk the Intel card and get the IBM a/b/g adapter. Any thoughts?

I have a T41 with the 2100 card. That is such an awful piece of crap it gives Centrino a bad name. Get rid of. The IBM wireless cards in my T23 (gone) and my T30 (gone) worked a treat. It has nothing to do with Access Connections. The Intel card itself is tragically flawed and worthless. .... jdhurst

Is this the general consensus? I've also got a 2200 that isn't too terrible, but I've been having some problems with it lately - more specifically, problems between the card and driver. I've got a G router - is it worth it to upgrade to the IBM a/b/g mpci card? Are there less problems with it?

Thanks, I have the IBM card on the way. I'll report back.

Yup, the general consensus for sure. I recommend everyone not to go with Intel wireless when the IBM is far superior.

I've had the IBM a/b/g for less than a day, but it appears to have solved all of my problems.

IBM a/b/g - flawless
Intel 2100b - steaming pile of crap

It is inconceivable to me that Intel or IBM would sell a product as flawed as the 2100b wireless adapter, but that appears to be the case.
