T23 Battery How long lasts ? (1:25 ?) Full Power

#1 Post by 123434 » Thu Feb 27, 2014 1:36 am

T23 Battery How long lasts ?
- I bought a new battery 5200mah.
SELLER EBAY: "screenaid"
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-5200mAh-Bat ... 5d3f6bb51d

TEST:
I leave the notebook(CPU:PIII 1.13ghz) running WinXP Pro in "Full Power"-mode...and it lasts about 1h 25min until hibernation begins...(+ I need the CPU in max.power 100% because machine is otherwise so slow and tacky if CPU speed is taken down.)

Is it normal ?

I need at least three(3) hours of runtime what to do ?
(I bought a 2nd battery+Maybe dual battery AC charger)

+ I have HP DV7-6117so 17.3 inch screen and quad-processor and it lasts at least 2 hours in max.power. Why this almost 15 year old computer takes more power than my new ?

Just to may variables for anyone to tell you battery run time. The quality of the battery is important, battery condition, hardware, and your usage pattern are but some of the factors. I doubt a cheap no name battery that you linked to will get anywhere near 3 hrs. It maybe advertised as 5200 mah but I highly doubt it is anywhere near that.

That is the result of the progress made in the design and manufacturing of silicon chips. Over the years a CPU's processing speed has greatly increased, while the power consumption has dropped. For my own T23s, I would get about two hours of run-time with a new battery. I don't think you can get three hours even with an Ultrabay battery attached, as long as you are running at "full power".

Not surprised it doesn't work the way you hoped.
Unfortunately for you, that battery is a knock-off!

What is the best+longest lasting battery available as new to T20-series ?
- Links...
The 5200mah uses Sony-cells(from notebook's battery info).

I have never got more than 2.25 hrs from a battery. And that is with the cpu using speedstep and an SSD.
Why have the cpu running 100% all the time when speedstep will manage the usage to give you 100% only when it is needed and give you more run time.

When I really need to run on battery for a long time I take an extra fully charged battery and just swap that in during hibernation or just power it down briefly.

When I read reviews of tablets that are criticized for having only a 6 hour run time watching videos I realize that our Thinkpads just cannot compete at all for battery run time.
Where to begin......
390e x1 390X 390X,700mhz
1 x T20 + about 8 untested for spares
4 X T23 + 6 breaking for parts
1 X T23 with Samsung 840 SSD and XP Great combination !

AND NOW....3 X T60s and 3 x T61s

Years ago, I built a X31, with both of the battery's for my sons use at school. I tweaked everything I could in Windblows. Then added Notebook Hardware Monitor, and tweaked some more. 5 to 6 hours was "normal".
I mention this because some incredible time was available with a better low cost unit (the x31). The equivalent to your T23 is about a X30. Might be worth a look.

X-series miss the "Male Com-port"...
Which thinkpad has:
- The biggest mah + longest lasting battery available as new
- Male Com-port(Male DE-9. Serial port)
- Newest + fastest hardware
I have the T23 (With 2x NEW batteries should last near 3:00 hours  )
[*]1.13Ghz P3
[*]32gb KingSpec SSD
[*]1GB Ram

Back in the days, I used to put T30 batteries in the T2x machines (T2x batt. in T30 does NOT fit!!).
The T30 were more powerful and lasted quite a bit longer.
T23: 10.8V 3.6Ah
T30: 10.8V 4.4Ah

RBS Beat me to it. Try to find a genuine ThinkPad T30 battery. They fit in T20 series (but not the other way around).

You can also get a battery that fits the UltraBay 2000. It doesn't last as long, but it allows you to keep the ThinkPad running while you change out the main battery if you are a real road warrior and want to keep the system up as long as continuously possible without AC power.

Some of my batteries are so run down I barely have enough time to shut the thing down if power goes out (as in yesterday)!
