Help With Finding a TP

#1 Post by arun » Mon May 16, 2005 4:32 pm

Guys,

I was looking on the EPP site for a TP and found the following deal that I am interested in.

2687D4U - 1386
266885U - 1461
2687D7U - 1571

I have some questions thou.

1. Why does the D7U cost more than the D4U, its 14in vs. 15 in ?
2. Can you tell the IBM reps you want a 60gig U HD, how much extra?
3. How much to buy a 7200 HD from online?
4. How much to buy the bluetooth chip from online?
5. Is the fingerprint really worth it and is it hassle free?

Thanks.

I don't know why, but all the 14" SXGA+ Express models have only 15% discount, where as, the 15" SXGA+ Express models have 25% discount.
Could be that the 14" ones are more popular than the 15" ones.

The Hitachi 60GB/7200rpm drives are rumored to me in short supply.
Prices at zipzoomfly.com and newegg.com have gone up to over $200 now.

You can get standard models, 2668xxx, 14" SXGA+ similar to the price of the 2687D4U.

If you are interested in a 14" model, check out these models for within +/- $60 of the 2687D4U:
266846U, no fingerprint reader, no bluetooth, Intel BG only
26684DU, fingerprint reader, no bluetooth, Intel BG only
26684EU, fingerprint reader, bluetooth, Intel ABG

You have to call IBM to get these models; they are not available online currently. You can upgrade to the IBM a/b/g II mini-pci card for $32.

A 14" SXGA+ T42, 2373M3U, has a 60GB/7200rpm HD and bluetooth, but it is backordered several weeks. It is about $1500 with EPP.
