telephone modem removal

#1 Post by vavet » Mon Mar 03, 2014 1:51 pm

hi,
I have noticed that some people remove the telephone line modem from their machines.
The only reason I can think of is to save battery.

Can someone tell me if this is really the case?

I have tried to search but couldn't find threads on that.

Don't know how much battery savings can be had but 1 less device to power on means less power consumption and less "potential" heat. And I don't have to worry about drivers. I don't have a land line at home and work still have a dedicated fax machine. Can't remember the last time I faxed something.

Yeah you could remove it, it'll save some energy.
Not much, but in the long run it'll add up to something.
Heck if you have the motherboard out of the case, go the extra mile and take out the CF card reader!

removed the modem today. Seems like a 10-20% battery time gain. Interesting, I wasn't expecting any visible difference.
as for the card reader removal: no way, still using it :)

10-20% is a notable increase in battery life. Maybe I should try this as well. :D
