Dead Thinkpad 390

#1 Post by adrlopz » Tue Mar 04, 2014 11:35 am

Hi! lets see if someone can help me; i have received this old lappy, and it does nothing,no lights at all, even when the ac power supply is connected (im using a T40´s charger).

Its 100% like when it was new (same ram,hdd...).Things i tried: i take the old coin/button battery, and the main battery.

I´ll try to reseat the memory now, but if it fails, what can i do? what would you do?.

Thanks! :)

P.S. Im out of luck, i removed the ram and nothing happens.

Since there are so many pieces inside that machine, I suggest you take everything apart and give it a good clean.
Rub all electric contacts, such as on the memory modules and modem card, with an eraser, then clean off any debris.
This would remove most, if not all, possible corrosion.
Then put it together again with the least amount of parts, adding one after another, in the hope it would start.
Also check the motherboard under a magnifier for any corrosion.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
