Trackpoint auto-scrolling in Windows 8.1
Trackpoint auto-scrolling in Windows 8.1
I upgraded form Windows 7 Pro x64 bit to Windows 8.1 Pro x64 bit and now the track-point on my T61p 6457 doesn't scrolling automatically and there is no setting in the mouse settings/track-point properties to effect this - I can only adjust sensitivity!
It is using Synaptics 16.2.19.13 (Sept 26, 2013).
Could you please advise how to get back autoscrolling!
Thankyou very much.
Philip

Re: Trackpoint auto-scrolling in Windows 8.1
Most likely by going back to Windows 7.
Windows 8/8.1 is comparable to ME and Vista, in other words: a dud.
Wait for Windows 9, before you do any update from W7.
And personally I wouldn't update to any newer OS, until at least Service-Pack 1 is out for it. YMMV.

Have to disagree, 8.1 is really really good on my T61 and the track-point auto scroll works perfect, I press the middle button then scroll down using the red track-point.

Re: Trackpoint auto-scrolling in Windows 8.1
I have never heard this term before, what is "auto-scrolling"?
I suspect the T61 is simply too old to be fully compatible with Windows 8, just like a T42 would be too old to run Windows 7 perfectly well. I wouldn't blame Windows 8.
Despite the fact that Vista now has better compatibility with old machines than 7? BTW, when was the last time that you used a computer with Vista SP2? Since Feb 2011, when I finally gave Vista another try (after avoiding it for 3 years thinking it was a "dud"), Vista has been more stable than 7 on all my computers, though 8 is even more solid. As far as stability, my ranking is 8 > Vista > 7 > XP. If I also take performance into consideration, my preference is 8 >> 7 = Vista > XP. 8 is Microsoft's most successful OS of all time, as long as the user can adapt to its novel interface. I do agree with you on ME, however.RealBlackStuff wrote:Windows 8/8.1 is comparable to ME and Vista, in other words: a dud.

Windows 8.1 is equivalent to SP1. Now is a good time to upgrade to 8 IMO, as long as you know in advance that all your drivers would continue to work.RealBlackStuff wrote:And personally I wouldn't update to any newer OS, until at least Service-Pack 1 is out for it.

Re: Trackpoint auto-scrolling in Windows 8.1
I have been running win8 64bit Pro on my T60 widescreen with 2.0 coreduo ATI coprocessor since December 2012; I got one of those original XP to Win8 upgrades. I put "Classic start8" on my machine as soon as I was exposed to the metro interface and really like it. I upgraded to 8.1 a week ago and outside of the new dumb start icon that 8.1 stuffed in the lower left corner every thing still runs well including trackpoint scrolling. Win8 is the first OS I have ever loaded on a thinkpad that found drivers for everything. The trick is to ignore metro install Start8 or similar start button and treat the OS like a newer version of Win7. PS/2 Trackpoint Lenovo driver 11/12/2009 ver 4.71.0.0
Re: Trackpoint auto-scrolling in Windows 8.1
trackpoint scrolling in win 8.1 is a mistery ! first time i instaled evaluation copy - worked and no need of extra drivers ect ect., second time - no , third time - no , now i have evaluation copy and it works. so something is wrong or m$ messing around ... or something is wrong with installation media.

Should solve your issue.
Also, I like Win8.1 a lot, especially after Update 1 which causes the full-screen stuff to act more like normal "Desktop" programs. It runs at least as fast as Win7 while using ~500MB less RAM on my Frankenpad.
