Had to uninstall Lenovo hotkeys & now I can't enable wifi :/

#1 Post by phil81uk » Thu Mar 06, 2014 6:40 am

I had to uninstall Thinkpad Hotkeys Integration Features because the shtctky.exe process was interfering with essential shortcuts utilities on the laptop.

However now I also cannot enable the wifi adaptor which I used to enable using the Fn-F5 shortcut. Mobile broadband and bluetooth are both enabled but not Wifi.

What's the best solution?

Depending on the drivers you are using -- e.g., Intel's drivers have this driver setting -- you might find a "Wireless On/Off" option in Control Panel/System/Device Manager/(wireless card)..right-click/Properties/(go through the tabs/options) ...

Good luck!

Your wifi switch could be off, however...

You might have to reinstall the wifi drivers (used to be somewhat common problem if the hotkey and wifi drivers were not installed and un-installed in the correct order). With the Intel drivers, you can choose to uninstall them, then a box pops up giving you the option to do a repair install. I would choose that if possible.

That said, you can use Windows to manage your wifi radio. Check in Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center.

Thanks. Windows managed to switch it on from the control panel. Great advice everyone, thank you.
