Completed uxga mod on 14.1" T60, pictures attached

#1 Post by kenzking » Thu Mar 06, 2014 10:19 pm

Tracked down a Sharp uxga 14.1" panel, and did the swap with my T60 today. Member xyz on this forum posted directions several years ago, its pretty straight forward. The screen connector has a pin that needs to be removed to make it work properly. Hardest part was getting the back of the panel apart to gain access to said pin.

I am attaching a picture of the screen I used showing the part number. Also attached a a picture showing my new 1600x1200 resolution :).

Screen isn't the brightest screen I have used in a thinkpad, but its not bad. The resolution is nice and very detailed. Big upgrade, I am glad I took the time to do it!

Great mod! Any tips for tracking down the panel.

Searching for LQ141U1LH02 found me some links for panels, make sure it says UXGA though. :o
They seem to be $100+ range, mislabled ones are lower res screens.

I had this screen on a 14.1" T42. Didn't like the lousy viewing angles, or the low contrast, or the added weight, but loved the real estate. If I could put one on my Toughbook CF-Y7, I would!

After the modification, is it also a direct fit?

Yes. See this thread: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=47899

I enjoyed this screen for 3 years, until the video card eventually failed.

The screen for sure isn't the most modern. It is a bit lacking in the viewing angle, and brightness. However for how I use my T60, it works great!
If I were to use the laptop on the go a lot, or in a vehicle; I probably wouldn't go with this screen. I would get a newer type sxga+.

The high resolution is so nice though, the pixels are very tight at this resolution in 14" screen. I am considering doing an LED mod on this panel down the road.
