R32 Need opinion

#1 Post by txnative3 » Wed Mar 12, 2014 10:26 am

I just picked up a R32 the other day for a descent price & need to know whether to invest a little or just get rid of it...has 1.6 cpu,512 ram ,intel graphics ,Toshiba 30gb ide hdd & needs a wifi card & power adaptor ....do know that the bios can be updated & the overall condition is a easy 95 out of 100 .The screen is clear & no dead pixels & will put a Linux Distro on it .....mainly just surf the web & watch a movie here & there, was looking for wifi cards internal & external ....not bad prices & already can get a power adaptor & the ram can max out at 1gb..so give me some feedback good & bad .

Thanks Chess

R32 is somewhat of an oddball machine, with several known problems. One of them is having a mind of its own when it comes to wireless cards.

All I'm going to say is good luck getting any one of them to work. Or you might just get lucky and boom - the first one you pick will behave.

Maximum RAM is 2GB, not 1GB. The fastest CPU is 2.6GHz Pentium 4M but those run very hot.

If you're intent on running Linux, you should be fine.

I've got a boatload of old IBM wireless cards that you could have for next to nothing if you want to play...

What's the full 7-character model number located on the same sticker that holds the serial and the production date on the bottom of the laptop?
