Screen Damage...
Screen Damage...
I know I just got this laptop (i mean like 3 hours ago), but somehow I seem to have damaged the screen just by bring the stupid thing to the library. I even carried it in it's protective sleeve that I bought at www.sfbags.com. It appears that the keys touch the screen when any pressure at all is applied, specifically the horrible burden of being in my backback, in a sleeve, and being friggin babied to death. I mean, I just got the [censored] thing (although, it is used).
Well, it didn't actually fall or anything. It's just that there are noticeable scratches on the screen where the keys kinda dug in, and there is an imprint in the middle of the screen where the ultranav touched it (which wiped away).
(and i just found a dead pixel that i didn't see before)
My old laptop keys never touched the screen and I carried it in similar conditions.
Is there some kind of warranty coverage for this? I've still got 2 years of warranty left. :-/
Thanks.

I dropped mine 8 feet high, and it was fine...
CALL ibm and let them know...don't be TOO terribly honest, just say that it was 3 hours old, and the screen died...?

I guess it's somewhat common for certian notebooks to have marks on the screens from the keyboards. I get marks from my red nub thing, and I've heard powerbooks get a lot of marks.
I use one of these when I need to transport my T42 with anything pressing on it (like in a backpack with books).

This is a classic problem with most laptops. My old i1480 series was damaged and ever since I have used a screen protector. I tried a few, but these are superior:

I have also used clear screen overlay protectors, but can not find one worth recommending.

Another huge reason to add Thinkpad Protection to a Thinkpad purchase, IMHO.
One or two years from now, if my screen looks like hell from such scratches, I will claim that it is damaged, which would be indesputable, and would have to be covered.
As I see it, you carry these things around, they are going to get mucked up in some manner over time. Accidental Damage coverage is money very well spent!

I'm a little perplexed as to the brouhaha over this issue (though I can understand the desire to have one's TP pristine). Aren't the marks invisible when the machine is on and the LCD is lit? At least that was the case with my 560x which had quite bad marks from the mouse buttons (or whatever they're called on a Thinkpad). Or is it different with the newer displays?
560, 560x, T23, T61
agreed, I wouldn't leave home without it.....
