Recent Find
So as Im rolling down the main drag in the burg I live, I look over to the right and spot a Compaq laptop leaning up against a sign post. Pulling a quick uey, I go back a grab it. Clearly it has been run over (more than once or twice), and taken it fair share of abuse. Prying into whats left, I extract a 100 gig Seagate, 2 2gig sticks of DDR2 and a Broadcom Card. Not a bad haul for a freebie!
Last dated file I can find on the HDD was for Jan 2012. Its XP only running SP2, so it looks like she was a goner long before I got it.
Anyway, scrounging paid off

Trying my hardest to collect Thinkpads, but college and being broke kinda gets in the way. However...

I remember freaking out when I thought I left a T400 on the roof of my car while rushing to work.

I remember my Dad leaving a folder full of papers on the roof of his car one evening. He drove off and the papers went everywhere. He didn't realise until he got home and we had to go back and find them in the pitch black with only a torch.Saucey wrote:I remember freaking out when I thought I left a T400 on the roof of my car while rushing to work.
Interesting to hear that Compaq is still working even after having been run over multiple times. You got any photos of it? Would be interested to see it!

Have you seen Rated RR on YouTube? He tests out BB and machine guns on smartphones and gadgets. Really nice vids, especially the 50 Cal slow-mo ones.jronald wrote: It now has at least 2 dozen .22 bullet holes in it now.

Re: Recent Find
Road finds are the best. I am glad you got some useful parts out of the Compaq, and even more fun with your .22.
I once found a Powerbook 1400 for $20 at a yard sale. I love that machine and still have it. I've gotten rid of almost all my desktop gear and gone completely laptop in the last 3 years. I still have my "old" quad core AMD desktop at work, it's got 16GB of RAM and 1 GB Geforce 560TI OC card in it. I keep debating on selling it seeing as how I hardly ever use it. But who knows, I may keep it just for the heck of it. It's quite a powerful computer.
But for me it's all about laptops now. I don't even read articles on desktops or keep up with video card news anymore. Just laptop related news and of course I still follow anything retro because old gear from the 60's and onwards looks like fun. I also enjoy reading the articles and user stories from those era's as well.
