X200 LCD cable replacement or repair

#1 Post by CHANN3X » Tue Mar 18, 2014 4:54 pm

Hey guys I have recently had issues with my webcam not working didn't think it was the cable have now discovered a break in the cable which when I flex it in the right place brings the camera back to life. Has anyone got any ideas on how to fix this? Or do I need to just replace the cable. If so how hard is it I have completely stripped my x200 various times as have completely rebuilt it bit have never removed the cable of of the LCD.

All advice would be gratefully received.

I personally would by a new cable, it shouldn't be that expensive. Since you've already have stripped it I don't think it will be difficult for you to remove the cable. Best is to follow the instructions of the HMM, in case you don't have it you can get it from here: click me!

Well its been a while since my last post but thought I would update you. I finally got round to ordering a replacement cable from China on ebay for £11.99 shipped when it arrived it looked almost identical to the original cable apart from the fact the Hall effect sensor which tells the computer to sleep when the lid is closed was missing although the solder pads were there to solder one on and the Thinklight LED is pure white and about 10x brighter. So I carefully removed the sensor from the original cable and contacted my local mobile phone repair shop who were able to reconnect it to the new cable for just £5.00 they used a microscope to solder it on as it is very small but it looks like it was always there from the factory. So all in all a very successful repair and it cost just 16.99 in total which is cheaper than the OEM part and a bit cheaper than a used part where you don't really know if that is damaged either.

Just thought this info may be helpful for anyone in the same position as I was with a faulty cable!

Thanks Guys
