Anyone had luck with installing Nvidia drivers on a T61?

#1 Post by portsample » Wed Mar 19, 2014 1:16 am

Has anyone had any luck with installing Nvidia drivers on a T61? My GPU and CPU are running hot, (160-180F). I've regreased both w/thermal paste and cleaned the fan and fins with minimal improvement. It was running 10-20 degrees F hotter before I bumped RAM to 8gb. TIA for a useful response.

Which distro are you running?

I have also experienced your problem, while trying to install the nvidia proprietary driver on any Kubuntu release so far. The driver is available in the repos, but can't load on boot. Sounded like a conflict between the driver itself and the kernel. I still can't resolve the issue to this day and have to use the nouveau driver instead.
