SOLD!: T61p, 15.4 WUXGA, 08/08, simply stunning...

Here's one really wild kitten from a batch that I've recently rescued...likely one of the very last T61p units ever delivered, according to the (expired) 4-year warranty info...

Product ID: Type-Model: Serial number:
6457D21 6457-D21 ajkula66

Location: Expiration date:
USA 2012-12-28

Rare bird? You bet. And then some...

the basics:

ThinkPad T61 (6457-D21)
Base 6457-4UU:

T7300(2GHz)
3GB RAM
100GB 7200rpm HD...........................shredded. Numerous other options available.
15.4in 1920x1200.............................LG Philips. Flawless. Gorgeous. Period.
256MB nVIDIA Quadro FX 570M
CDRW/DVD
Intel 802.11agn wireless(n-disabled)
Verizon WWAN
Bluetooth
Modem
1Gb Ether
UltraNav
Sec Chip
FPR
6c Li-Ion battery in "green"
Middleton's BIOS installed

One weird thing is that Lenovo lists this machine as a T61, meanwhile it sports both the FX570M GPU and a WUXGA panel, which were never an option on the base T61 models. The clear plate states "T61p"...so I'm guessing a typo on Lenovo's end here, not the first or the last one when it comes to the website in question.

Physically - as well as functionally - this laptop is in outstanding condition and I'd conservatively rate it at 9.25 on a 1-10 scale.

Although the machine carries a "safe" date, GPU has been tested (read:abused) with countless hours of both Freestone and Furmark and I haven't gotten it to bluescreen - let alone crash - once.

My take - after examining all the usual "trouble" spots - is that the laptop was barely used. Expect absolutely minimal wear bearing in mind that this is a five-year-old machine. It won't look newer than your T540p but it might be more presentable than many T520 units out there. Not kidding.

I'd like to see this one going to a good home. Seriously.

Needless to say, I've got all the parts to upgrade this fine machine to just about any configuration imaginable. All you have to do is ask nicely and pay promptly...

Now here comes the difficult part... how much should I ask for this thing of beauty?

Given how rarely machines with a "safe" date code - let alone of "p" variety - hit the market, there simply is no "going rate" for such an example...

I might consider a partial swap for a smaller ThinkPad - X60T (SXGA+ only), X200s (WXGA+ only), X301 - but you're more than welcome to offer something else if you believe that I might bite...

Pictures will be posted in a couple of days since I won't be around to take them over the weekend...

PM or email me directly to tataslonATaol.com with any questions/concerns.

Wow, awesome find! Do you think it sat in a corporate office as a backup that never got used?

Close enough guess... :thumbs-UP:

It was one of those weird situations where you come to a place of business to do (non-computer-related) work, ask about one thing and end up walking out with something completely different...

Sounds like a great find and a great price too.

I've seen quite a few of these listed on lenovo's website as a T61, but if it's got the FX570m, it's a T61p. it is unusual for one of these to ship with a T7300 cpu, but every 08/08 I've seen had shipped with a Penryn motherboard so it would be a simple matter to upgrade to any of the Penryn chips and the going rate for one of these motherboards alone is about $300 so you can't go wrong here.
