Problem with Thinkpad X1 and Intel Wireless Display

#1 Post by mandrakkio » Thu Apr 03, 2014 3:14 am

Hello, at the first install, the Lenovo System Update 5 suggest me to upgrade the drivers of my Lenovo Thinkpad X1 (first model): all went OK but the Intel Wireless Display 7/8 (32,64) driver.
This driver (software version 4.2.24.0) has been downloaded but not installed.
If I try to install it manually I get this:

"This platform is not compatible with Intel WiDi. Your graphics driver cannot find or load necessary components for Intel WiDI."

My Thinkpad X1 (model 1294-23G) should be compatible with the minimum requirements: second gen 2.5GHz i5 2520M processor, HD 3000 graphics and Intel Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 WiFi...
Someone can help me, please?

Thanks in advance,

Alessandro.

Intel WiDi can be a pain to get setup properly. You're going to have to install the graphics and wireless/Intel ProSet drivers directly from Intel's website-do not use the one's that are on Lenovo's site. Intel has a tool on their site that will check your systems for eligible drivers and update them as needed. Once this is done, WiDi should work without a problem.

I don't have an X1, but I do have an X230 tablet with the same wireless card and similar CPU. This is what I had to do in order for WiDi to work properly.
I lost count...

Thanks Eric for the reply.
I've tried the tool on the Intel page with no luck: the drivers are downloaded but the install fails.
I can't find where the problem is.
I don't think is an hardware issue.

I would uninstall all the intel drivers, then reboot and try the intel tool again.

Solved!
Maybe the first time I've used the wrong tool: the one to use is this.
It will check the PC configuration and add the missing drivers, then you can use the Lenovo System Update to search for the latest drivers.
Eric, many thanks for your kind help.

Alessandro.
